CONFIRMED: David Ornstein confirms Forest are now edging closer to Third January signing as Reds agree personal terms with experienced Goalkeeper, Reds hoping to agree deal with club before deadline
Nottingham Forest are now working on a deal to sign Strasbourg goalkeeper Matz Sels before tonight’s deadline according to David Ornstein
Nottingham Forest agree personal terms with Matz Sels. The 31-year-old has now agreed a deal with the Belgian goalkeeper and he’s ready to fly over to England it would seem.
According to David Ornstein, the Belgian international could be on the move today, with Forest now a possible destination.
The transfer guru claims that personal terms have now been agreed and the player is ready to fly over to England to complete a medical.
However, there is no deal between the two clubs just yet.
Sels has been the number one in Ligue 1 for Strasbourg during the 2023/24 campaign and he’s made 19 appearances in total.
Forest are keen on a goalkeeper today, with Matt Turner receiving criticism for his performances of late and Odysseas Vlachodimos failing to make his mark too.
Signing a custodian today looks like a must for Forest if they’re to stand any chance of staying in the Premier League. However, the club will want to cut their cloth accordingly, with finances pretty right across the Premier League.
The 31-year-old has been with Strasbourg since 2018 when he checked in from Newcastle. During his time in England with the Magpies, he made 14 appearances for the club and kept five clean sheets.
Sels has made six appearances for the Belgian national team and perhaps he would be capable of doing a job for Forest. The stopper has further experience with Anderlecht, Gent and Lierse and now it appears that he’s on the radar of Forest.
Former Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has raved about Sels in the past, calling the goalkeeper ‘impeccable’ when he was at Newcastle.
Sam Johnstone has also been linked with Forest and it’s hard to see Sels as an upgrade on the four-time England player.
Still, it’d be pretty impressive to be a downgrade on the current goalkeepers and at this stage, it’s a case of needs must for Forest.
