The University of Texas has achieved a historic milestone by reporting a record-breaking $331.9 million in athletic revenue for the 2024 fiscal year, becoming the first Division I public school to surpass $300 million in both revenue and expenses. This financial success coincides with a lucrative contract extension for head football coach Steve Sarkisian, whose leadership has been instrumental in the Longhorns’ resurgence.

Record-Breaking Financial Performance

In the 2024 fiscal year, Texas athletics reported $331.9 million in operating revenue and $325 million in operating expenses, resulting in a surplus of approximately $6.9 million. This marks the first time since the NCAA began its current reporting system in 2005 that a Division I school has exceeded $300 million in both revenue and expenses in the same year. The only comparable figure was the University of Oregon’s 2020 revenue, which included a substantial $270 million donation for stadium renovations.
