Leeds United are reported to be still interested in appointing Carlos Corberan as a possible replacement for Daniel Farke in the dugout.

Leeds’ chances of getting back to the Premier League this season appear high, but pressure is on Daniel Farke to produce results at Elland Road.

Amongst his rivals for the top two this season are again West Brom, who are still managed by Marcelo Bielsa’s former assistant Carlos Corberan, sitting top of the pile so far.

Football Insider reported this week that the club are still interested in appointing Corberan as a possible long-term replacement for Farke. The Baggies boss has impressed during his time in the Championship both at the Hawthorns and at Huddersfield Town, taking both sides to the playoffs despite limited budgets.

The same outlet also shared that the Baggies boss has a £2million release clause present in his contract, putting him within reach for a team like Leeds if they are willing to pull the trigger.

Carlton Palmer slams concept of Leeds sounding out Corberan with Farke in the dugout

Speaking to Football League World, former Leeds midfielder Carlton Palmer believes it would be “mischievous” from Leeds to be pursuing the Spaniard at this stage.

He thinks Farke should be given more time in the Leeds dugout, as he says:

“I think people have been mischievous talking about Daniel Farke leaving Leeds and Carlos Corberan taking over there, that’s nonsense. Apparently, Leeds retain an interest in Corberan, but as I said, I think that’s absolute nonsense.

“I think that Daniel Farke should be given time, he got them to the playoffs last season, it’s been very, very difficult for him this season.

“I think this is a bit of mischievousness, Leeds have a fantastic manager in Daniel Farke and West Brom currently have a top manager in Carlos Corberan.”

There would be no point in sacking Farke right now after just five games, with his side yet to take full shape after the transfer window shut. His tactical shortcomings were outlined in the loss against Burnley last time out, unable to change the course of the game with any subs or tweaks.

However, Farke has what it takes to get this side promoted by May, and should have more time to assert his dominance on the league.
