Pedro Neto leaving Wolves this summer has felt inevitable, and many will wonder how it hasn’t happened sooner.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea have seen a £55 million bid for Neto accepted, with the winger set to undergo a medical at Stamford Bridge shortly.
Wolves are wasting no time in lining up a replacement for their £50k-a-week star, with Fabrizio Romano revealing that Ajax winger Carlos Forbs has been shortlisted as one of their potential replacements.
🚨🟠 EXCLUSIVE: Wolves target Ajax winger Carlos Forbes as replacement for Pedro Neto in case Chelsea deal will be completed.
Forbes, on Wolverhampton shortlist as they start exploring options in case of Neto’s exit.
A current Portugal under-21 international, Forbs made a name for himself as a lethal winger during his time at Manchester City’s academy.
The 20-year-old plundered an eye-watering 26 goals and 13 assists in 38 appearances for City’s under-23 side. Despite scoring and laying on goals for fun, the 2004-born winger was sold to Ajax last year, who paid £16m including add-ons.
Forbs enjoyed a decent first campaign in the Eredivisie, where he registered two goals and four assists in 21 matches but after being released by Man City, he’ll be eager to prove he can set the Premier League alight.
From his electric speed, fleet-footed dribbling and the fact he’s a young, Portuguese winger, Forbs could be the perfect replacement for Neto, who looks as though he’s moving on from Wolves after five years and 135 appearances in gold.
