“Let’s not celebrate it too much but he knocked on my office and said boss I’m 100 per cent convinced, I want to be here”- Daniel Farke shares what Max Wober told him straight after Leeds United’s pre-season tour as he calls for forgiveness from fans

Max Wober may have to be patient when it comes to winning back the support of Leeds United fans.
Both Wober and Brenden Aaronson were reportedly met with a handful of boos following their introductions from the bench in last weekend’s win over Valencia.
The former Red Bull Salzburg stars were two of eight first team players who decided to leave Elland Road on loan in the wake of Leeds‘ relegation to the Championship.
Those decisions were met with some real animosity by Leeds supporters, though both Wober and Aaronson have shown some serious backbone in returning to the club.
Now, all they can do is show their commitment to Leeds by performing on the pitch, and sooner rather than later, fans will be on their side again.
Aaronson actually confirmed pretty early in the summer that he would be returning to Leeds this season, giving supporters plenty of time to digest the news.
Wober, though, was far more uncertain. During his involvement with Euro 2024, he admitted he had no idea what the future held for him. However, Wober has since returned for pre-season with Farke confirming after the first friendly against Harrogate Town that he would be part of his squad.
Now speaking in his pre-Portsmouth press conference, Farke has shed more light on how Wober has reaffirmed his commitment to the club behind-the-scenes.
“He was a bit longer involved in the tournament [Euros], it was more difficult and we had a good chat on the telephone when he was playing for Austria. Then I allowed him 2.5 weeks of holiday to clear his head and come back.
“The chat was I want to be there and prove my worth. It’s always the same, a player comes in and their last experience was relegation and their reputation is maybe not on the top level, like Georgi or Illan last year. Now everyone is fully convinced and singing their names.
“Max was a bit careful to be too loud within the group, wants to adapt, especially in the German training camp. We sit together after the first three weeks of training and he said straight away, knocked on my office, he said ‘boss sorry am I allowed to come in, I’m 100 per cent convinced, I want to be here.’
“The same with Brenden, one good training session or game is not enough to win back supporters but he has my backing, he has been good in training, they will need a few weeks until they are back to 100 per cent.
“I get the feeling they can play a really important part. He is really desperate to prove his worth. Let’s not celebrate it too much, the actions are more important than the words.”
Wober spent last season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach and actually enjoyed a decent season from a personal point of view.
Gladbach are interested in re-signing Wober but have been unable to meet Leeds’ asking price, though sporting director Roland Virkus has left the door open for a late move.
