“If a massive bid comes from a top club then no one is going to stand in Pedro’s way, I’m hoping he stays here though”- Gary O’Neil finally admits that Wolves would sanction sale of key star if club receives massive bid

Gary O’Neil has admitted Wolverhampton Wanderers will sell Pedro Neto if Newcastle United meet his reported £60million asking price.

The Magpies, Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with the Portuguese international in recent months. Neto has developed into one of the Premier League’s best wingers but injuries remain his kryptonite.

Newcastle are understood to be chasing a right-sided attacker and missed out on Michael Olise to Bayern Munich earlier in the window. Wolves talisman Neto is in a similar talent bracket and would cost a comparable fee.

Speaking to the Express & Star, manager O’Neil conceded he may be helpless in persuading Neto to stay at Molineux. Neto has three years remaining on his Wolves contract – meaning they are in no desperate need to sell.

“I know how good he is, and I know how well he would do at a big club,” O’Neil said. “Obviously, I want our team here to be unbelievably successful. So I’m hoping that he stays. I think so (there’s a chance he stays). There’s nothing going on at this moment from anybody. 

“He’s in a good spot. I’ve spoken to him about how we’re going to play and how it suits him and what a big part he’ll play in it. But of course, we’re all grown-ups while you’re having them conversations. If a massive bid comes from a top club then no one is going to stand in Pedro’s way.

“I’m confident that he will be here. Because we haven’t had anything really, that makes the club think that he won’t be. But of course, a lot of business can be done late.”
