EXCLUSIVE: Aston Villa make U-Turn on Jacob Ramsey future after previous decision

Aston Villa are reluctant to sell midfielder Jacob Ramsey after balancing their books in recent days, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed in May that academy graduate Ramsey, 23, was likely to be the club’s biggest summer sale. However, midfield trio Douglas Luiz, Morgan Sanson and Tim Iroegbunam were all sold by Villa before the 30 June deadline for submitting the club’s 2023-24 accounts.

The Midlands club are now expected to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Tottenham are keen on a potential deal for midfield ace Ramsey and are ready to strike a deal despite the rollover into a new financial year.

But Villa have now U-turned on their position on selling the 23-year-old, with a well-placed source telling Football Insider that Emery has decided to keep him, feeling he has a part to play for the Midlands club.

It is believed Ramsey is still seen as a key player, with extra games in the Champions League to contend with in the 2024-25 campaign. Any sale for the England Under-21 international would have been classed as pure profit in the Villa accounts under PSR.

Ramsey made 21 appearances in the 2023-24 campaign, notching one goal and two assists. The 23-year-old managed just 10 starts with foot and toe injuries seriously limiting his involvement.

He has made 122 Aston Villa appearances in total since his debut in 2019, notching 13 goals and 12 assists. Ramsey is under contract with the Midlands giants until June 2027 after penning his last extension two years ago.
