Huddersfield Town have joined Stoke City in pursuit of Burnley attacker Jay Rodriguez, according to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page.

Huddersfield Town are keen on an ambitious swoop to lure the forward down to League One this summer. However, they will need to face competition from Stoke City in the Championship if they are to win the race for his signature.

Rodriguez, 34, is out of contract at Turf Moor at the end of next month and is yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal so is due to become a free agent as things stand. He has been on the books of his current club since 2019.

In this latest update regarding his future, journalist Nixon has claimed on Patreon that the Terriers are interested in snapping him up for nothing as they aim for an immediate promotion back from the third tier following their relegation.

Huddersfield Town could see Rodriguez as someone to add more quality to their attacking department. He is a vastly experienced player in the Football League and would also inject more know-how into the Terriers’ ranks.

The veteran has been at Burnley for the last five years and has scored 33 goals in 159 matches for the Lancashire outfit. Rodriguez helped the Clarets win the Championship title 12 months ago under Vincent Kompany. However, they have slipped out of the top flight after this past campaign.

He started his career with Burnley but moved down south when Southampton came calling in 2012. He then spent five years with the Saints in the top flight and fired 35 goals in 126 outings before having a two-year stint at West Brom.

Huddersfield Town may be able to offer Rodriguez more game time though which is something he will need to consider.

The Yorkshire club have recently appointed ex-Cheltenham Town, Barnsley and Swansea City man Michael Duff as their new manager and he will be looking to put his own stamp on their squad with some new faces.
