Rangers WON’T attempt to keep Fabio Silva beyond this season, according to reports.
The £35million Portuguese striker joined on loan from Wolves in January as Philippe Clement bolstered his attacking options for the second half of the campaign. But the 21-year-old has flattered to deceive at Ibrox, scoring just four times in 19 appearances for the Light Blues.
Silva initially rotated with Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers up front but has found himself playing out wide in recent weeks. The youngster hasn’t found the net since a 2-0 win over Hibs on March 10 and is on a seven-game goal drought.
Silva spent last season on loan with Anderlecht and PSV and has been deemed surplus to requirements by Wolves. The Premier League club are keen to cut ties permanently this summer but know they’ll only recoup a fraction of the club-record fee they shelled out to sign him from Porto in 2020.
And according to Sport TV Portugal journalist Sebastião Sousa Pinto, his future doesn’t lie at Ibrox. It’s reported that Gers won’t seek to extend his loan deal this summer, meaning Silva faces another summer of uncertainty when he returns to the Midlands after next month’s Scottish Cup Final at Hampden.
Silva will be entering the final year of his Wolves contract when he heads back down south, having signed for the Molineux side in 2020 on a five-year deal.
They paid Porto £35million for him but the move hasn’t worked out as planned and he scored just five goals in 73 games for them.
