EXCLUSIVE: Bitter Sammie Szmodics shows displeasure & unhappiness as he shares post showing superior stats on social media after being beaten by Crysencio Summerville to Player Of The Season award

Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville has been crowned the Championship’s Player of the Season, pipping Leicester’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Blackburn’s Sammie Szmodics to the prize.

The Championship has been brimming with talent this season, not least at the top end of the table where Leeds and their two relegated counterparts have kept a lot of their Premier League standard players.

Daniel Farke’s star of the show this season has been Crysencio Summerville, dragging the Whites through matches at times and putting them in with a shot of the league title.

Last night brought the EFL end of season awards ceremony with Leeds heavily involved in the Championship side of the prizes.

First, Archie Gray scooped up the league’s Young Player of the Season accolade, before Ethan Ampadu, Georginio Rutter, and Summerville were all named in the Team of the Season.

Then, the Player of the Season prize in the Championship went to Summerville, who beat Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Sammie Szmodics to the award:

Sammie Szmodics reacts to POTS snub with bitter messaged

Despite having the last laugh on the pitch at the weekend by scoring the only goal at Elland Road, Blackburn’s Szmodics isn’t happy that his top-scoring season wasn’t recognised with the award.

He posted this on social media after the confirmation of Summerville earning the prize:

Szmodics can be frustrated all he wants, but there’s more to being the best player in the league than just scoring.

He’s been outstanding for a poor Blackburn side and rightly recognised in the nominations and the Team of the Season, but there’s no way he’s been the best player in the league.

Summerville and Dewsbury-Hall have been the best two players comfortably, you just have to watch them play to know that.

People can argue that Summerville has been off the pace in the last two games, but you only have to see how teams plan for him – he’s got three players marking him every game.

Does Szmodics or even Dewsbury-Hall get that treatment? No.
