“We have a long contract with Wolves but Fabio has to settle down somewhere, He didn’t get alot of opportunities as he would liked”- Fabio Silva father suggests son might not return to Wolves and may have played his last game for club as he looks to permanent stay at Rangers
Fabio Silva’s father has suggested the striker may well have already played his last game for Wolves, insisting he ‘has to settle down somewhere‘.
Silva left Wolves last month to join the Scottish giants, in a bid to get regular game time. It is the third loan spell he’s had so far since joining Wolves for £35.6 million in the summer of 2020, having played for both Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven last season.
So far, Silva has made four appearances for Rangers and on Friday, he scored his first goal for the club in a 3-0 win over Livingston.
According to Silva’s father, it’s possible he could actually return to the club next season…
Silva was unable to convince Gary O’Neil that he was worthy of regular minutes in the first half of the current season.
He had a few chances at the beginning of the campaign, but the youngster quickly faded with the likes of Matheus Cunha, Pedro Neto and Hwang Hee-chan preferred in attack. Silva simply had to leave, and he now has a good opportunity at Ibrox.
It’s been a decent start for him, and the player’s father Jorge has hinted that Silva may not actually play for Wolves again.
He said (quoted by Daily Record): “We have a long contract with Wolves but Fabio has to settle down somewhere. Is there a possibility of Fabio staying at Rangers next season if he does well, even on loan? I think so, yes. Listen, in four months many things can happen.
“But I hope Rangers can be champions this season which would be amazing for the club and also for Fabio. To play in the Champions League, that’s something Fabio has desired so much. He didn’t get alot of opportunities as he would liked at Wolves. He needs continuity in his career now. If Rangers are happy with him – and obviously the last word will be with Wolves – why not? My advice to Fabio is to give his best for this massive club, do what he can to help his team and the coach – and make the supporters happy. If everyone is happy at the end of the season, why couldn’t he go back to Rangers?”
A lot could happen between now and the summer and it will be really interesting to see what kind of position Fabio Silva is in later this year.
It has been a tough spell for him at Molineux and there are question marks as to whether he will cut it long-term.
Last summer, there were suggestions that Silva wanted out of the club, with his agent claiming that he wanted to leave. But Silva also said publicly that he would give his all for Wolves while he was here. In the end, it was largely thanks to sporting director Matt Hobbs that he stayed.
His father is right, he does need continuity. But that seems to be quite far off at Wolves.
The club should be listening to any offers for him this summer. It will be three years after he first signed for £35.6 million and it’s hard to make a solid case for him to be kept if a decent permanent offer comes in.
