‘”Massive privilege to be part of this club”- Connor Roberts sends message to Leeds fans on Social media after completing Elland Road move
Connor Roberts will have to wait until next weekend before making his Leeds United debut but the defender is excited to get going at Elland Road – and posted a message to fans on Friday afternoon.
Finally, after the 11pm deadline, Leeds confirmed their only arrival of the January window in the form of 54-time Wales international Roberts. A crucial signing that solves the lack of options at right-back.
Leeds waved goodbye to nine players during the January transfer window – in Luke Ayling, Djed Spence, Jack Jenkins, Ian Poveda, Sean McGurk, Darko Gyabi, Leo Hjelde, Lew Bate and Jeremiah Mullen.
Sonny Perkins returned from Oxford United after a poor loan during the first half of the season and then Roberts finally came in the door. Leeds have cleared the decks, and only added one senior signing.
But, it solves a crucial lack of options at right-back – with Archie Gray and Jamie Shackleton naturally midfielders. Some much-needed experience in defence, with Roberts a Championship winner last term.
His signing came too late for him to be involved on Friday night, and he is cup tied against Plymouth next week. But, Roberts is available next weekend when we take on Rotherham United at Elland Road.
He’s even hinted he’ll sign permanently beyond his loan. Roberts is clearly delighted to be at Leeds, where he reunites with Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, Joel Piroe, Dan James and even Patrick Bamford.
After all the drama of deadline day and Thursday night, Roberts took to Twitter for the first time following his move on Friday afternoon – thanking fans for his reception and saying “let the fun begin”.
Let the fun begin! A massive privilege to be apart of this club! Thanks for the welcome ???? @LUFC ⚪️
