DONE DEAL: Fabrizio Romano confirms Burnley have now completed second January signing late in window as Clarets reach full agreement to sign French star, Player to undergo medical today

Burnley have reached an agreement with French side Montpellier over the signing of defender Maxime Esteve.

Following reports that Burnley and Montpellier were still in talks for Maxime Estève, it appears the defender is on his way to Turf Moor.

That’s according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who took to X, formerly Twitter, to bring the latest on the centre-back’s move to Turf Moor.

He explains that there has finally been an ‘agreement found’ between Burnley and Montpellier for the transfer, with the player set to complete a move to the English side today.

It was previously reported that while the Clarets had met the expectations of the Ligue 1 side in terms of money, they were also trying to delay the payments as much as possible, which didn’t sit right with the French club.

Burnley then decided to make a new offer to get the deal over the line, which now appears to have been accepted.

It was also said at the time that Vincent Kompany’s side were waiting for an answer from Montpellier, which seems to have now arrived.

If all the numbers are the same as the previous offer, just with different payment schedules, then total package of the deal is €14m with the Clarets due to pay €12m upfront with a further €2m in add-ons. The deal will also see Montpellier entitled to 15% transfer fee on any future sale made by Burnley.
