EXCLUSIVE: Burnley Interested In Signing Free Agent Jesse Lingard On A Short Term Deal, Player Wages Proving To Be Major Stumbling Block Though Unless Clarets Can Negotiate Lesser Salary

Burnley are interested in signing free agent Jesse Lingard, according to reports.

The 30-year-old has been out of contract since the end of last season, following a disappointing season-long spell with Nottingham Forest.

Lingard has been training on his own as he gears up for a return to football after failing to find a club over the last six months.

Burnley have now been linked with the 30-year-old and they may now have the chance to sign him and offer him a deal, but the player’s astronomical wages could prove to be a stumbling block to that deal unless the club are able to negotiate a lesser salary with the player although that is unlikely.

Lingard earned in the excess of £120,000 per-week at Nottingham Forest last season and with the Manchester United academy graduate approaching the twilight of his career, he could be looking to earn a salary in a similar range.

As for Burnley, they need all the Premier League experience they can get if they are to avoid relegation this term with Vincent Kompany’s side currently languishing in 19th position on the league table. Lingard has years of PL experience under his belt and has won four major trophies during his career, so could be a smart addition for the Clarets.

The report claims that Lingard has interest from abroad, too. He has allegedly ‘received offers’ from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and MLS.

However, if the former Man Utd man opts to continue in England then Burnley might have a shot at his signing.
