“I think he’ll leave, I actually think he’ll end up back at Leeds if they get promoted”- Noel Gallagher says Man City star will likely make sensational return to Leeds if club secures PL promotion this season

Noel Gallagher shares likelihood of Kalvin Phillips signing for Leeds United as Man City exit on the cards

Noel Gallagher believes Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips will re-sign for Leeds United if they get promoted this season.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday (15 January, 06:00pm), the musician, who was a guest on and who supports the Citizens, said he expects the England international to leave the Etihad Stadium in the January transfer window.

He added that the 28-year-old is a “great lad” and a “top player”, but he believes he needs to move on from the Premier League champions as he’s not going to get into their team.

“I think he’ll probably go by the end of the window,” said Gallagher. “There will be a lot of posture and theatre, but I think he will go, he has to go. I mean, he’s a great lad and he’s a top player, but he’s not going to get in that team.

“Every time he does come on, every time he gives the ball away, you just think ‘oh, mate, come on’, you’re kind of willing him to do well. But it just seems that every time he comes on with five minutes to go, we concede a goal or something.

“He needs to move. I actually think he’ll end up back at Leeds if they get promoted.”

There is quite a lot that needs to happen before Phillips would be in a position to go back to Leeds as the move wouldn’t make sense for him at this moment in time.

The midfielder joined Man City to go and win trophies and, although he has done that, he hasn’t featured much at the Etihad since making the move in the summer of 2022.

He will likely be keen to continue playing European football at this moment in time and will probably be aiming to win some more silverware.

If the Whites were to gain promotion this season, then there’s a chance he could return to Elland Road in the summer, but that would depend on what happens with him over the next few weeks.

There’s a feeling he will make the switch back to West Yorkshire one day, but it would take a few things to fall into place for that to happen any time soon.
