“Birmingham record under Wayne Rooney is a problem, Is it time to admit this isn’t working and come up with a way out”- Journalist says Wayne Rooney sacking is on the brink at Birmingham City after Leeds defeat

Daily Mail journalist Tom Collomosse has mooted Wayne Rooney’s sack at Birmingham City after their loss to Leeds United.

The Whites won the Championship encounter between the two clubs 3-0 on Monday (1 January) to end a two-match losing run.

Patrick Bamford, Daniel James and Crysencio Summerville were on the scoresheet to clinch three points for the hosts.

“Losing to Leeds at Elland Road is not the problem… but Birmingham’s record under Rooney most certainly is,” Collomosse wrote on X. “Is it time to admit this isn’t working and come up with a way out?”

Birmingham’s change of management earlier in the season raised many eyebrows, and it simply has not worked out the way they wanted it to.

Their latest defeat came at the hands of Leeds, who put on a New Year’s Day show for their home supporters at Elland Road.

Rooney has certainly had an interesting time of it in his brief career in the dugout so far, and he was always going to be in for a tough task during his latest visit to West Yorkshire.

The visitors definitely had chances to get on the scoresheet, but it was the hosts who unsurprisingly dominated proceedings in general.

The Midlands club really are struggling at the minute, with Birmingham now on 28 points from their 26 matches as they hover dangerously above the relegation zone.

It remains to be seen what will happen to Rooney, but at the minute it doesn’t look good, with Daniel Farke the latest boss to outwit the Manchester United legend.
