EXCLUSIVE: Nuno Espirito Santo has already reversed one of Steve Cooper’s major Nottingham Forest decisions as Portuguese boss start making major changes at City Ground
Nuno Espirito Santo looks to have already reversed one of Steve Cooper ’s decisions at Nottingham Forest by bringing back the duo of club captain Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna once again into the first team fold.
The Portuguese manager took his first training session at the club today, after replacing Cooper as manager on a two-and-a-half year deal. The club posted a video of it on X and it shows both Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna training with the first team squad.
The pair had recently not been training fully with their teammates under Cooper, in terms of tactical match preparation sessions. But Forest’s video shows the two defenders involved in a passing drill as Nuno watches on.
Club captain Worrall has not featured since the 2-2 draw with Luton Town on October 21. McKenna has not figured for Forest since the 1-1 City Ground draw with Burnley on September 18.
Nuno was unveiled at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon. Forest confirmed his arrival this morning in a statement while he was shortly seen arriving at Forest training ground to take his first training session with the club’s first team squad.
And as usual with every new manager, the Portuguese has given every player a new slate to start with. The same applies to captain Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna who became outcasts towards the end of Steve Cooper’s reign at the club.
Both players were banished from training with Nottingham Forest’s first team squad and looked set to leave the club in the January transfer window. They have now been handed a lifeline though by the arrival of Nuno at the club and would be hoping to Impress the 49-year-old in a bid to get their Forest careers back on track.
The new head coach will take charge of his first game for the Reds on Saturday’s Premier League fixture when they play host to Bournemouth at The City Ground
