EXCLUSIVE: Telegraph Journalist reveals the real reason why Scott McKenna has been unfairly banished from training with Nottingham Forest’s first-team as player feels betrayed by club after years of service
Nottingham Forest defender Scott McKenna has now been banished from first-team training – and the real reason has now come to light.
The Reds player will be out of contract during the summer transfer window and now he’s set to leave Forest in January.
Previously, it’s been claimed that McKenna is being eyed by Fenerbahce who could make their move in January.
Worryingly for Forest, overseas clubs don’t have to sign McKenna in January and can arrange a pre-contract agreement to sign him for free next summer.
According to John Percy of The Telegraph, the situation has become increasingly sticky with Forest defender McKenna.
McKenna made five appearances for Forest in the opening weeks of the campaign but hasn’t been included since September.
The player was reported to have endured a dispute over his contract before a game against Manchester City earlier this season.
Percy claimed in his latest article: “McKenna’s situation is understood to be linked to a contract dispute that occurred before the 2-0 defeat at Manchester City.”
Percy also went further to claim that the player felt he has been “betrayed” by the club after playing an integral part in the club’s progress in recent seasons.
Forest have treated defender appallingly
The 27-year-old has served Forest with distinction since he arrived at the club from Aberdeen in 2020 for £6 million.
In over three years at the club, he’s helped them win promotion and then survive relegation from the top flight.
McKenna was the Player of the Year during the 2021/22 campaign and he was also named Man of the Match in the Championship Play-Off Final.
Last season, McKenna adapted to the Premier League and did show some improvement with the more games he played in the division.
Naturally, the club does now have better options at the heart of their defensive unit but the fact he’s leaving under a club is of detriment to the football club.
