CONFIRMED: Good news as Fabrizio Romano confirms Leeds have now submitted formal bid to sign German midfielder on a Four year deal, Whites waiting on player response to offer
Leeds United have sent a formal bid to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for attacking midfielder Nadiem Amiri, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Romano tweeted (23 August) that the Whites have offered the German a four-year deal and that it is now up to him to decide if he wants to depart Xavi Alonso’s outfit.
Amiri has made 98 league appearances for Leverkusen since 2019 and five appearances for the senior Germany side.
Daniel Farke looks to be adding defensive depth to his side by attempting to persuade his countryman to move to Yorkshire before the end of the month.
Leeds have added Ethan Ampadu and Sam Byram into their defence, but have looked in need of further reinforcements since their Championship campaign’s underwhelming start.
Amiri looks like an experienced and quality player who would certainly play well in the Championship.
He is a progressive midfielder and can boast 2.48 progressive carries per 90 (86th percentile) and 1.41 successful take-ons per 90 (86th percentile)[FBRef], showing him to be an influential factor in the midfield.
He could also help answer some of Leeds’ goalscoring issues, with 0.20 non-penalty goals per 90 (90th percentile) and 1.94 shots per 90 (91st percentile).
LeedsLive reported (23 August) that the Whites were looking to bring in at least four new summer signings before the closing of the window and will likely remain busy til the eleventh hour.
For now, Leeds fans can get excited about the prospect of a quality midfield operator who could, if all goes to plan, help them back to the Premier League.
