REPORT: Aston Villa now closing in on the signing of World Cup winner after opening formal talks with Sevilla, player has already agreed to personal terms

Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on the signing of Marcos Acuna from Sevilla in the summer transfer window.

According to reports, Villa now have a verbal agreement in place to bring the 31-year-old left-back to Villa Park this summer.

The deal for the Premier League side to sign the 31-year-old World Cup winner is said to be in the final stages and he’s due to travel to England from Spain in the coming days.

This claim is in stark contrast to what the Sevilla president said yesterday, when he suggested that Villa are yet to make a formal offer for the Argentinian ace.

However, it seems like things may have progressed since then…

TyC Sports reckon that Villa are now very close to bringing the experienced Sevilla left-back to the Premier League from La Liga. While Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed Aston Villa’s interest in the player.

Unai Emery already has Alex Moreno and Lucas Digne to choose from in the left-back department, but the Aston Villa boss clearly wants more quality competition, and perhaps a real winner, to come into the club before the transfer window closes.

Marcos Acuna will definitely be a very strong addition for Aston Villa for at least the next two years. His attributes make him perfectly suited to the Premier League what with its speed, physicality and intensity.

His deliveries into the box have been described as ‘delicious’ by UEFA’s official website, and they are bang on the money.

Quite how much Villa will have to pay for him in the end remains to be seen though.
