Newcastle United vs Aston Villa: Newcastle Team news and predicted Lineup for opening game of the season as new signings Harvey Barnes and Sandro Tonali both start for Eddie Howe’s side

Newcastle are set to do battle with Aston Villa in what promises to be a tantalising clash in the first game of the 2023/2024 Premier League season for both teams.

After four consecutive finishes in the lower reaches, the Magpies produced arguably the club’s most impressive season in the 21st century in 2022/23.

Ambitions have now skyrocketed at St James’ Park following an outstanding campaign, but Newcastle cannot afford to rest on their laurels if they’re to replicate last season’s success in 2023/24. An opening day victory against a Villa side tipped to over achieve this season will be the perfect start Eddie Howe’s side needs to be considered serious challengers once more this season.

Team News
Newcastle will be without Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo in their season opener, while Howe still sweats over Joe Willock’s match fitness.

But the Magpies’ summer additions, Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento, are expected to be in the matchday squad.

Defence
Nick Pope will start his first game in between the sticks for the Magpies.

The Englishman will be provided cover with the same back four that brought so much resilience and success last season as Sven Botman, Fabian Schar are expected to pair in the Centre-back positions with Kieran Trippier taking his favourite right back spot and Dan Burn occupying the full back role on the opposite flank.

Midfield
New signing Sandro Tonali is expected to start his first Premier League game for the Toon with the Italian expected to partnered by Brazilian midfield duo Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

Attack
Miguel Almiron is expected to start in attack alongside new signing Harvey Barnes and hotshot Alexander Isak who will be given the early season nod ahead of Callum Wilson in the centre forward position.

Newcastle United predicted starting line-up:
