“Who’s in charge of Recruitment? It hasn’t been good enough, their rivals are better prepared”- Former Leeds Assistant slams club as he expresses doubt at immediate PL promotion for Whites this season

Former Leeds United assistant manager Karl Robinson has questioned the club’s promotion hopes ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The 42-year-old was Sam Allardyce’s assistant towards the back end of last season and was part of the coaching staff that oversaw the Whites’ relegation to the Championship.

Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show on 3 August, Robinson said it could be difficult for the club to regain promotion after a number of players have left Elland Road.

When asked if Leeds can bounce straight back up, he said: “If they get a good striker, yes. They’ve got some decent defenders, Liam Cooper has come back from injury now, the midfield isn’t bad.

“But they’ve sent a lot of players out on loan – players that they probably should’ve kept if they want to bounce back. Rasmus Kristensen has gone to Roma, Max Wober has gone – there’s some big players that have gone out on loan.

“I think that’s going to play a key role in coming back up. And who is in charge of recruitment? There’s been that many people and some of the stuff that’s been going on hasn’t been good enough.”

“It’s quite a long shot and I see their rivals looking better prepared at this moment honestly.”

It’s quite hard to tell just yet where Leeds will stand heading into the new season after so much has gone on since the club were relegated.

There has been a change in ownership and in management, so it’s hard to predict what impact that is going to have moving forwards as the start of the campaign approaches.

Robinson obviously saw for himself what was going on behind the scenes last season and it can’t have been pretty, but a lot of things that were in place during his time at Elland Road are no longer the case.

It’s understandable that he’s cautious in predicting exactly where the Whites will finish due to the number of players that have left the club throughout the summer, with further exits still on the cards.

But Daniel Farke is slowly putting the pieces together and if he can keep hold of a few of his prized assets when the transfer window shuts at the end of the month, then they will have a great chance of fighting up at the top end of the table.
