“If anyone hasn’t got the attitude to fight for this club, then off they go, We only want players who want to play for the badge”- Tony Dorigo urges Leeds to sell any player who doesn’t want to give 100% as he says club won’t miss them
Tony Dorigo has hinted that Max Wober may not be as big a miss as some may expect after the defender decided to leave Leeds United for Borussia Monchengladbach.
Dorigo was speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post as he opened up on his disappointment following the Austrian’s decision to leave on loan.
Max Wober certainly seems to have damaged his relationship with Leeds fans beyond repair. There was real hope that the January signing would stick around.
In fact, Leeds Live reported that Wober’s decision to leave hurt his teammates. The centre-back had previously committed to staying and trying to help the Whites out of the Championship at the first time of asking.
Dorigo has admitted that he would have loved to have seen Leeds keep the 25-year-old. However, he suggested that it is more important that Daniel Farke has players who are up for the battle.
“I’m disappointed that he’s moved on because I think he would have been an absolute asset. You can understand that these players are looking at it in a different way and off they go. But on the same side of things, I think that with any successful side that I played in, the hunger and the unity has always been there. You might not have the best players in the league but I’ll tell you what, you certainly need the best attitude and camaraderie and that gets you a hell of a long way,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“If you haven’t got that, you’ve got a problem, and so if anyone hasn’t got that attitude to fight for this club, then off they go and it’s actually not as big of a miss as we might think. It’s more to do with that unity and solidarity. We only want players who want to play for the badge”
It is going to be really interesting to see what the future holds for Wober. Right now, there is a lot of anger being directed at the defender from supporters.
Ultimately, the fans always expected several players to leave. And Wober was one of the only positives in what was an awful campaign last year. So he was always going to attract interest
But the frustration stems from the fact that he was initially prepared to stay, only to then decide to leave later in the window.
It may only be a loan move right now. But it is incredibly hard to see how Wober reignites his Leeds career once his time away comes to a conclusion next summer.
