Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson gave his thoughts on Crysencio Summerville and Wilfred Gnonto
Investment from the 49ers should help Leeds United resist offers for Crysencio Summerville and Wilfred Gnonto this summer, with former goalkeeper Paul Robinson urging the club to keep hold of both attackers this summer.
Reports have suggested that both players are targets for Everton and Crystal Palace respectively this summer and could be available for the right price following Leeds United’s relegation.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough year at Elland Road playing 31 times across all competitions.
And having spoken of his love for the club already this summer, Robinson has urged the Whites to keep him at the club. And with the 49ers said to be keen on investing in the team to guide them back to the Premier League, Robinson believes keeping Summerville could be key.
“Yeah [they should keep Summerville], especially with the new investment. The money is there they don’t have to sell your best players,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News. “Players like Summerville and Gnonto – young and exciting players – are the ones who are going to get you out of the Championship. Those types of players I would be very reluctant to let walk out the door.”
Speaking to Dutch outlet NOS, the young winger said last week: “I see and read some things here and there, but I focus on this tournament [U21 Euros]. I also deliberately asked my agent not to give me that information until after the European Championship. We can take a prize, we’ll see the rest later.
“I used to play FIFA with the guys I played against in England. I enjoyed every game. And I really love Leeds, where I came in as an 18-year-old. That moment will stay with me forever. A few hours after that goal [against Liverpool] I turned 21: that was the best birthday I could wish for. I hope we return to the Premier League as soon as possible.”
