Exclusive: Victor Orta now looking to take advantage of Leeds situation as he set sights on signing Leeds attacker for Sevilla this summer
Leeds United striker Rodrigo has been made a target for Sevilla after confirmation of Victor Orta’s appointment as sporting director at the club.
Orta made his return to football on Tuesday evening as it was announced he would be replacing Monchi in the hotseat at the Europa League champions.
Monchi made the switch to Aston Villa last week to link up with Unai Emery again, which opened the door for Orta to make his return to Sevilla, a club he spent seven years at earlier in his career.
Orta, of course, made Rodrigo his first signing in the Premier League for Leeds in the summer of 2020, splashing out a club record fee, at the time, of £27 million.
Rodrigo has just 12 months left to run on his contract at Elland Road and after relegation, is almost certain to leave, particularly now he is back in the Spain setup.
He scored 13 Premier League goals last season in what was an impressive individual campaign, though it wasn’t enough to prevent Leeds dropping back into the Championship.
Supporters will certainly not begrudge Rodrigo of a move this summer but Orta looking to cherry pick his former club’s players on the cheap does leave a sour taste in the mouth.
Orta was a big reason for Leeds’ failures over the last two years and now he is at a new club, he is already looking to take advantage of it.
