Leeds United player set to leave for free – Relegation release clause sees transfer without fee
Germany’s Bild are reporting Robin Koch can leave Leeds United as a free agent this summer, thanks to a release clause in his contract.
According to the German claims, the defender’s camp negotiated a clause which means he won’t be kept to the final year of his contract and have to appear in the Championship.
To make it clear, Bild are adamant that it’s not just a clause for a cheap exit, they believe Koch can leave Elland Road for no transfer compensation whatsoever.
The 26-year-old cost Leeds United €13m in 2020 when they signed him from SC Freiburg. Koch enjoyed a mixed time with the Whites, and whilst it was always likely he’d be leaving this summer it’s still a blow if he does so as a free agent.
The news only adds to many of the mistakes made by Victor Orta who was the club’s former Sporting director at the time of negotiation. Orta was relieved of his duties alongside Javi Gracia back in April although that move was not enough to save the club from relegation from the Premier League by the end of the season.
Bild hype up interest in Koch, and the German newspaper say clubs in England, Italy and Germany are keen on a deal. They’ll obviously be all the more interested if they’re informed of the clause which Bild insist exists.
