Confirmed: Aston Villa now close to second summer signing after Tielemans as club agree deal to sign Champions League winner

Aston Villa are set to confirm the signing of English Midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is set to leave Liverpool this summer, it’s understood that at this stage he is close to joining Unai Emery’s squad.

The 29-year-old is leaving Liverpool this summer after six years on Merseyside, having joined them from Arsenal back in 2017. His contract at Anfield is expiring and talkSPORT had claimed Villa are “on the verge” of signing him on a free transfer. With talks said to have now entered advanced stages.

He made almost 150 appearances during this time at Liverpool, scoring 18 goals from midfield in that time.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was part of the squads that won the Champions League, Premier League, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. Before that, he won the FA Cup three times with Arsenal.

Villa announced today that Youri Tielemans would be the club’s first signing of the summer as he’s set to leave Leicester City following their relegation to the Championship.
