Report: 22year old Leeds star set to leave Elland road for Bundesliga this summer as Whites look to cut losses on £25million fee after poor season

Leeds United midfielder Brenden Aaronson is set to quit the club this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that a move to Germany could be an avenue available to the 22-year-old following his impressive spell at Red Bull Salzburg in neighbouring Austria.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Aaronson is “highly regarded” by a number of Bundesliga sides.

The midfielder’s younger brother, Paxten, plies his trade for Eintracht Frankfurt after leaving Philadelphia Union last summer (2022). A return to the Premier League for Aaronson is not likely following his limited impact in his first season in England.

As has been widely reported, the United States international has a relegation release clause in his Leeds contract – which has become active following the club’s demotion to the Championship. It is believed the player himself is keen to leave Elland Road in the off-season.

The attacking midfielder, who cost Leeds a reported fee of almost £25million last summer (2022), has a contract running until June 2027.

Aaronson earns a reported wage of £45,000-a-week.

He managed just two goals and three assists in 41 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.

The midfielder was a mainstay under the stewardship of Jesse Marsch and Javi Gracia but was dropped to the bench following the late-season appointment of Sam Allardyce.

Leeds have begun work behind the scenes as they plot their business in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (2 June) that the Whites will look to add new faces at left-back, central midfield and in attack in the off-season.
