“Congratulations, Glad it’s Everton, Have a lot of love for that club” Gary Lineker reacts as Everton survive PL relegation after victory over Bournemouth
Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Sean Dyche’s Everton staying in the Premier League at the expense of Dean Smith’s Leicester City.
The BBC MOTD presenter played for both Everton and Leicester City during his career.
Everton have survived the dreaded drop to the Championship, while former Premier League champions Leicester will play in the second tier of English football next season.
The Toffees have finished the season with 36 points from 38 matches. Leicester have ended third from bottom with 34 points from 38 games.
On the final day of the season on Sunday, Everton beat Bournemouth 1-0 at Goodison Park in the Premier League.
Leicester also won, getting the better of West Ham United 2-1 at the King Power Stadium.
Gary Lineker on Everton and Leicester City
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Absolutely gutted, but glad it’s @Everton. Have a lot of love for that great football club. Congratulations.”
While Everton will play in the Premier League next season, it is clear that the Merseyside club need to do much better.
Much, much better.
The Toffees were dire all season, and the fans are rightly frustrated with the team. Everton are a big club, and the players need to step up next season.
As for Leicester City, the Foxes won the Premier League title not so long ago, and now they will play in the Championship.
