Exclusive- Fabrizio Romano confirms Leicester are closing in on deal to appoint Dean Smith as manager on short-term deal until end of season after Jesse Marsch snub, talks already in final stages

Leicester City are in talks with Dean Smith with a view to making him interim manager for the final eight games of the season according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 52-year-old is a serious option to replace Brendan Rodgers until the end of the season with talks reportedly in final stages.

Leicester are on a desperate run: they have taken one point from eight games and are two point from safety in the English Premier League, following a 1-0 home defeat by fellow strugglers Bournemouth.

Smith is one of a number of contenders the Foxes have spoken to – a move for former Leeds boss Jesse Marsch collapsed over the weekend.

The former Aston Villa boss is available after leaving Norwich in December and, should a deal be finalised, is likely to be joined by assistant Craig Shakespeare.

The pair worked together at Carrow Road and Villa and Shakespeare had a brief spell as manager at the King Power Stadium in 2017, having been assistant to Claudio Ranieri when the Foxes won the title in 2016.

Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell having taken caretaker charge of the last two games.

Whoever is in charge this Saturday faces a daunting trip to Manchester City.
