Oliver Glasner says he refused to allow Dean Henderson to apologise for Crystal Palace’s 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Monday evening.

Palace went close to taking the lead in the first half when Eddie Nketiah took aim from distance in the 19th minute, but his effort crashed off the outside of the right-hand corner of the goal.

Forest eventually took the lead in the 65th minute when Trevoh Chalobah’s clearance fell to Chris Wood, who unleashed a half-volley past Dean Henderson. The Eagles stopper got a hand to the ball but was unable to keep the effort out.

Palace made a handful of changes, bringing Jean-Philippe Mateta, Ismaila Sarr and 19-year-old Asher Agbinone for his senior debut. However, they were unable to find an equaliser and extended their winless Premier League start to eight – surpassing the record set by Frank de Boer and Roy Hodgson at the start of the 2017-18 season.

“He [Henderson] tried to apologise, but I wouldn’t allow it,” said Glasner.

“It’s not about blaming anybody. He made so many big saves for us this season and last season.

“It’s sport and they’re all human – it happens. But he doesn’t need to apologise for any mistake he makes. 

“It’s always how we deal with the mistakes and it took us five or 10 minutes.

“This is what gives me a positive feeling for our next games. I don’t expect any easy game against Tottenham – they’re a great team and very attacking.

“They’re the challenges we have. We will need Dean and he will help us.”
